Zawa Zawa

Two strong voices in contemporary sound art open the door to a whole new sound universe. ZAWA ZAWA's new album Meditation on Violence is a journey through cinematic landscapes where fragility and strength meet in pulsating transformation. ZAWA ZAWA is a dynamic collaboration between Lisa Nordström (flute, voice, electronics) and Mika Takehara (vibraphone, percussion) – two internationally established artists who, in the meeting between improvisation and composition, create music where acoustic presence and electronic pulse are woven together in real time. Together they explore the moment when music arises – in a constantly changing web of sound, movement and direction. Meditation on Violence is released in March 2026 on ajabu! records is ZAWA ZAWA's first full-length album – a filmic journey where the movements of music explore power, struggle, and transformation. The title is taken from a work by Maya Deren, a pioneer in experimental film, whose work often revolves around the body, ritual and the poetic in movement. In her film Meditation on Violence, the gestures of violence are gradually shifted towards something meditative and contemplative – a transformation that also lives in the album’s music. The album's sound world unites two energies: the physical presence of the acoustic body and the changing space of electronic expression. Contrasts can coexist – fragility and strength, stillness and rhythm in a flow that never stops. Each track is a landscape with its own dramaturgy. Sometimes like fragile ice breaking, sometimes like a body in rotation between earth and sky. Music that draws its pulse from movement, its direction from resistance – and its meaning from the moment of transformation.
